Artistic Time Pieces

Daylight Savings Time is upon us. I enjoy that our evenings will be full of more sunshine. I am not enjoying the first Monday morning after "Springing Forward". It just feels like I've gotten up an hour earlier. In honor of the time change, today's post features several artistically crafted clocks. Clocks seem to be dying out in our culture with the clocks we have at hand on our phones, computers, microwaves... I even have a clock on my pedometer. However, these clocks are equally beautiful and functional; just as much art pieces as time pieces. Enjoy!

Each clock is available through The Artful Home and each artist offers several clocks in addition to those shown here, some offering other pieces. To see more work from each artist, click the link on the artist name.

The first three clocks are by glass designer Nina Cambron.

Flower clocks are by artist Emi Ozawa.

Metal Artist Leonie Lacouette creates many geometric patterns in steel, brass, copper, slate and wood.

John McDermott is the artist and furniture designer behind the two wood wall clocks featured below.

Husband and wife team Ken and Julie Girardini are the creators of the flowing and bending metal clocks below.

Favorite Things - S Shelf

I found another beautiful piece of functional art at The Artful Home. The S Shelf is by Kino Guerin, an artist specializing in bent wood art and furniture.  In his own words:  "I capture the nature of life through bending wood. For me, it is like taking a picture of a body in motion. By fixing a movement for eternity, it shows how existence is fragile and powerful."

For more on KinoGuerin or his products, visit his artist page at The Artful Home, or his website.

Artful Christmas Ornaments

I post many items from The Artful Home, primarily because the artwork is absolutely beautiful and so well crafted. I also support the ideas behind Artful Home - it's a place for independent artists to showcase and sell their work, with the service and support of a national company, and Artful Home gives a portion of every sale to assist artists in crisis. You can read more about artist you admire through their profile on the Artful Home website.
Below is a selection of amazing hand crafted holiday ornaments available thorough Artful Home. This selection just scratches the surface, so visit directly for even more choices.

"Chantilly Lace" by Michael Egan

"Frankincense" by Paul Lockwood

"Candy Floss" by Jason Howard

"Twinkle Star" by Susan Knecht

"Big Blue Easy" by Mark Rosenbaum

And for that First Christmas - the "Binky" by Cheryl McKenney

Magnificent Menorah's

'Tis the holiday season and so begins many a posting with holiday ideas, tips and products for a beautiful season. Last year I reviewed several artfully crafted Menorah's for the holidays in my Crazy for Menorah's posting. Many of those are still available from the artists and through The Artful Home. I have a few more to add to the selection this year. This collection is by the glass artists Joel and Candace Bless and are also available through Artful Home.

Favorite Things - Twist Table

Most people don't view tables as artwork, but merely as functional pieces to hold our stuff. The good folks at Artful Home are a major exception to that thinking and the selection of functional artwork/furniture offered is astounding. One of my favorites is the "Twist" Bamboo and Steel table by Dylan Gold.

Modern Holiday Decorations

For those of you with a more modern palette, modern holiday decorations are as readily available as the traditional. Here are a few inspirational items to get you started.

"Signs of the Season" Metal Wreath by artist Boris Bally, available in two sizes at Artful Home

Black artificial tree with white lights from allmodern.com, also available in red with red lights.
A perfect tree topper for the modern tree, the "Snowflake Starburst Tree Topper" from Pottery Barn.
Here is a modern holiday tables scape I recently created. The glass trees are from CB2. The sequin trees and bead garland are from Hobby Lobby. Candle holders belong to my client, but you can easily incorporate your own everyday candle holders into your holiday decor.
